Title: 25 Items (5-15-09) sponsored by Leinenkugel Classic Amber
Body:

Sorry for the late notice about last night. We are having round two in June. I will make sure to promote it properly.  Like I said yesterday, the goal is to take the money and have a few blow out parties like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmccoy73/sets/72157606950328696/

The newsletter is now sent to over 3000 people.  Now the question is how many people actually read it.

This past week, checked out a new bar/restaurant in Old City, Bocca, which seemed to have a nice scene going on.  Also caught the Phillies businessman special yesterday and Positano Coast had their official opening of their Sopra Lounge. http://www.lambertis.com/locations/positano.htm. Plus attended the Rittenhouse Row event and McFaddens’ Springfest.  Plenty of things going on around town.  There is a lot of outdoor festivals and events this weekend too.

Shore is almost here so I checked out the water.  Still very cold:  http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/catl.html

And aren’t you happy this was not in Philly? http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/05/15/pearl.jam.mugging/index.html

Lastly, item #1 below discusses how the $8000 tax credit can be applied.  Seems like new buyers who qualify will be able to use the $8000 at the closing table which is amazing.  If you have questions about it, please let me know. - Mark

FHA drafting policy on first-time homebuyer credit

First-time homebuyers will soon be able to access their $8,000 federal tax credit when closing on a home through a short-term bridge loan that will cover their down payment on FHA-backed loans.

The Federal Housing Administration will soon publish a policy that will allow FHA-approved lenders, HUD-approved nonprofits, and state and local housing finance agencies to "monetize" the tax credit through short-term bridge loans, Secretary of Housing Shaun Donovan said Tuesday.

4) PARKING TOLLS

http://philadelphia.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/stories/2009/05/04/daily51.html?ed=2009-05-08&ana=e_du_pub

Traffic, parking crackdown in Phila. Monday
Philadelphia Business Journal - by Athena D. Merritt Staff Writer
The Philadelphia Parking Authority and the city will launch a joint crackdown on Monday to enforce traffic laws and parking regulations in Center City.

Police will be stationed on key corridors to enforce Don’t Block the Box [crosswalk] laws and red light running. Parking enforcement officials will also be ticketing and/or towing double parked vehicles and illegally stopped vehicles.

The crackdown, which is a joint effort of Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey; Deputy Mayor, Transportation and Utilities Rina Cutler; and PPA Executive Director Vince Fenerty, is aimed at improving safety and reducing traffic congestion.
In January, the city doubled hourly rates at Center City meters from $1 to $2 to encourage more turnover. PPA is studying an increase to $3 an hour which could go into effect July 1. Fines have also increased — from $25 to $36 for expired meters. The violation for parking in a taxi stand is $31, in a loading zone is $51 and double parking is $76. In coming weeks PPA will expand the number of loading zones to reduce double parking by commercial vehicles, Fenerty said.
“We’ve worked across agencies, with Center City businesses and delivery companies to identify suitable parking for delivery vehicles that will keep traffic moving and allow business to be conducted,” Fenerty said.
Improved bicycle, scooter and motorcycle parking is also in the works under the mobility enhancement program developed by the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities and PPA.

In her small Wisconsin hometown, she learns the virtues of politeness, but a tragic accident when she is seventeen shatters her identity and changes the trajectory of her life. More than a decade later, when the charismatic son of a powerful Republican family sweeps her off her feet, she is surprised to find herself admitted into a world of privilege. And when her husband unexpectedly becomes governor and then president, she discovers that she is married to a man she both loves and fundamentally disagrees with–and that her private beliefs increasingly run against her public persona. As her husband’s presidency enters its second term, Alice must confront contradictions years in the making and face questions nearly impossible to answer.

24) Nutter: Philadelphia BRT board must go

The future of the Board of Revision of Taxes provoked a full fledged political battle yesterday, with Mayor Nutter asking board members of the maligned agency to resign. In the wake of a searing investigation by the Inquirer, which revealed a long tradition of mismanagement and flawed property-tax assessments, Nutter yesterday announced what he called the first in a series of steps to reform the BRT. Saying that he needed to "restore trust" in the BRT, Nutter called on board members to resign voluntarily. He also asked City Council to approve legislation that would strip board members of their salaries - between $70,000 and $75,000 a year for part-time work - and move much of the BRT budget under the authority of the city finance director.  The BRT board pushed back hard against Nutter's request, saying that they intended to stay on the job, to work on improving the city's property-tax assessment system. Click here to visit the Board Revision of Taxes website.
