Went to see the Dead on Friday before jumping a plane in the morning. What a different scene getting in to the Spectrum. For the two Bruce shows, it was normal. For the Dead, it was more like the President was performing. And having another night at the Spectrum made me appreciate the newer venues - no cup holders and the tiny hallways. Inside the Spectrum, they have a banner for the Dead honoring their 53 sold out shows at the venue. But they did not have a Bruce banner up although I think they have one for him at the Wachovia, right?

22) YIP EVENTS
A) Controller's Forum: Meet the Candidates Times are tough. Money is tight. So who is keeping an eye on our tax dollars? The City Controller's job is to make sure that the City is not wasting our money, while engaging communities and recommending ways the City can make more effective use of our tax dollars. Especially in this economy, the City Controller's job is pretty important, and this year's primary election is highly contested. YIP is hosting a forum where you can meet the candidates, hear their ideas, and get your questions answered. We hope that you can join us, but either way - don't forget to vote on May 19th. Date: Thursday May 14 Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Location: The Union League - South Marble Room (use the 15th Street entrance) Join us for drinks at Time afterwards B) Our Taxes. Our Future A forum to understand the impact of impending tax changes on Philadelphia's next generation The unstable economy has made life difficult for all. Not immune, the City of Philadelphia is faced with sinking revenue, a budget deadline, and a table of decisions. It's widely understood that today's tax rates will be changed to support the City's budget, and while nothing is certain, these potential changes would have a major impact on all who live and work in Philadelphia. Yeah...that means you. It's imperative to understand how these changes will affect you and your personal budget. City leadership is joining Young Involved Philadelphia to discuss the forthcoming budget and answer questions about the future of Philadelphia's taxes. How would a sales tax hike impact weekly spending? What will Philadelphia rent prices look like if a property tax increase is enacted in combination with full assessment? Why would legislators target a wage tax raise, and how will this new budget influence our daily lives? It's your money. It's your chance to be heard. With major tax decisions looming, policymakers are listening to people's concerns: this is an opportunity to voice yours. Date: Wednesday, May 20th Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Location: Independence Ballroom at the Independence Visitor's Center, One North Independence Mall West, 6th and Market Streets
