Anyone want to play spring soccer? Games are on Saturdays. League is co-ed. Email me if interested.
This week, I jumped up to Killington for a few days. Was able to time the storm and we had about 18 inches of snow to play in. I posted some videos from the trip on my Facebook page. And for those that want to hit the Killington weekend in March, check out item #17 below. Also attended the wine event by www.UpcomingEvents.com last night which had a nice turn out of more than 100 people. They are having some more wine events coming up which I will make sure to let you know about.
A little late notice but MTV is coming to Raven Lounge tomorrow (Sat, 2/28) at 10AM to casting for an upcoming Real World. Bring a photo with you if you go. http://www.ravenlounge.com/
For those looking for live music on Saturday nights, Fieldhouse has a cover band every Saturday. http://www.fieldhousephilly.com/ Warning though: Domestic draught beers are $5 for a pint, which I think is a bit expensive.
And lastly, I included some Real Estate info below about foreclosures and incentives for city employees. Email me if you have any questions about either of them. - Mark

4) CITY EMPLOYEES
Philadelphia revitalizes employer-assisted housing program
Philadelphia is launching a revamped employer-assisted housing program in an attempt to kick-start sluggish home sales and entice more people who work in the city to live in it. A byproduct of the program’s dual goals would be increasing the city’s overall population, which continues to decline annually but not as fast as it used to. Called “Home Buy Now,” the program could give prospective home buyers up to $17,500 toward purchasing a new house in the city, which — combined with some savings — could mean the difference between going to the closing table or not. While the city started an employer-assisted housing program a little over a year ago, it wasn’t being aggressively promoted and its scope was limited. The city’s Commerce Department has restructured the program, allocated $1.5 million toward it and will officially re-launch it in March. One of the key differences in the new program is the involvement of a contingency of 20 residential developers with projects in Philadelphia with new homes that aren’t selling. 15) The 5th Annual "Great Irish Stew Cook-Off"
Thursday, March 5th, 2009 from 6 PM to 9 PM at Finnegan's Wake at 3rd & Spring Garden Sts. Donation of $5.00 at the door, which gets you some of the BEST Irish Stew in Philadelphia, live Irish music, and a cash bar.
The Cook-Off is judged in two categories; Professional - Restaurants, and Amateur - Individuals / AOH - LAOH Divisions. Last year's winners were Ida Mae's Bruncherie (Fishtown) in the Professional category and AOH Division 87's own Dan Hazley in the Amateur class.
This annual event raises money to support the annual Hibernian Hunger Project Cook-In, which has in the last six years, prepared, packaged and delivered over 90,000 individual meals to organizations like Aid For Friends, the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center , the St. Francis Inn and St. John's Hospice to name a few. All of these organizations help to feed the elderly, homeless and less fortunate. So come out and kick off the Season of the Irish with great food and fun, while helping a great charity.
On Saturday, April 4th the Philadelphia County AOH and LAOH will again be preparing and packaging meals at Aid for Friends. This event will begin at 9:00 a.m. until we finish at the Aid For Friends Building which is located at 12271 Townsend Rd, in Northeast Philly.
Aid-for-Friends normally struggles to get through the summer with enough meals to feed all 2,200 shut-ins. While volunteer cooks often go away on vacation during this time, the Hibernians from Philadelphia are ready to lend a hand. The "Cook-In" is the main annual event of the Philadelphia Hibernian Hunger Project. The Philadelphia AOH - LAOH Hibernian Hunger Project cook-in has prepared, package and delivered individual meals to Aid-for Friends since 2000.
