Title: 21 Items (1-16-09) sponsored by AMERICAN MALE
Body:

I have a busines opportunity if anyone has interest.  A friend of mine needs a commission based sales person for a Green energy company.  If you have time to

put in some hours and interest, please let me know.

Tomorrow night is HOD.  It is not too late to buy tickets if interested.  It is my favorite formal affair of the year.

So, BP did in fact close. One rumor I heard is that an Apple store might go there.

Anyone able to take off Monday and Tuesday and head up to the mountains?  Looks like some snow:

http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/tenday/USVT0125?from=36hr_topnav_business
I was able to head up last week for a few days.  I had not been to Hunter in a long time.  Had a nice time there. http://www.huntermtn.com/

So, it seems like I did not need to pay the meter on new years day.  I learned of two hotlines for the city that will get your questions answered.  First one

is 215-686-1776 - save the number.  The other is the new 311 service the city has implemented.

I found some sites that we all can use for recycling: http://earth911.com/, http://www.econewonline.com, and http://www.interconsolutions.com/index.htm

I actually watched all 45 minutes.  I thought it was interesting and would share.  It is President Bush's final news conference where the press has a Q&A

session with him. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2009/01/20090112.html

And what would my intro be without some real estate info?   Did you know you can use your IRA and invest the money as you would like?  That includes using

the money to buy real estate.  And did you know the  30-year Fixed Rate Mortgage has not been lower since 1971?  So, if you have job security and with the

housing prices, it is an interesting time to buy real estate.    I am a licensed realtor and would like to help.... - Mark

7) Menu Labeling Comes to Philadelphia

The strongest menu labeling law in the country will take effect in Philadelphia beginning January 1, 2010.  The law will require calories to be posted on

menus, menu boards, drive thrus, and take-out orders of fast food and chain restaurants in the city.  All fast-food and chain restaurants in the city with 10

or more locations across the country will be required to comply.

The legislation was introduced in March 2007 and after a long fought battle was passed on November 6, 2008.  You’re the Cure advocates, partnering with

volunteers from other community groups, met with City Council members to gather support for the measure.  With word of a possible delay of the vote,

advocates turned out to attend the council meeting the day the vote was scheduled to take place.  Thanks to their presence and last minute conversations, the

vote occurred and the bill passed.

13) Gov. Rendell designates January as Radon Education Month

January has been designated as “Radon Education Month” by Gov. Rendell, urging all homeowners to have the air in their homes tested for the radioactive gas

that can cause lung cancer. Radon detection kits are available at most hardware stores for around $25, and winter is the best time of year to perform the

test as homes are closed off to ventilation. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking action to lower the level of radon in your home if a

test finds the level is 4.0 picocuries per liter or higher. While the potential for radon pollution may be higher in some areas of the state, any home can

contain radon. About 40 percent of homes in Pennsylvania are suspected of containing the gas in unsafe levels, according to the Pennsylvania Department of

Environmental Protection. Homeowners are not obligated to test for radon, but any tests performed must be revealed at the time of a home’s sale, in

accordance with federal law.  For more information, including a list of radon mitigation companies, log onto www.depweb.state.pa.us, keyword “Radon.”

18) Thomas Jefferson QUOTES AND THOUGHTS

A) When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.

B) The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

C) It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

D) I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of

them.

E) My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

F) No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

G) The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

H) The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I) To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the

issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all

property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
