My gathering in Avalon went well on Saturday (4 kegs). For those that can be in Avalon on Saturday the 23rd, I recommend coming down, as there will be a big bay party starting at 1PM. There will be lots of beer, band, and DJ. If you can make it, plan to bring a float and hang out in the bay for the day.
This past week, I continued to see more music. Radiohead was Tuesday and George Thorogood was Thursday - unfortunately I missed Neil Diamond. In between, was a great night in Rittenhouse Park. Hidden River Outfitters has also teamed up with Chris Raab of Tuktu Paddles to offer the ACA's Coastal Kayak Open Water Skills Course. If you have experience on protected water, are comfortable in mild conditions and want to sharpen your open water skills, join us for this course.
The ACA Coastal Kayak Open Water Skills course is an 8-hour course focused on helping students learn to travel safely and efficiently by sea kayak with bulkheads or flotation. The course includes:
introduction to navigation
boat lean and edging
review and practice strokes
paddling in currents and surf
introduction to kayak maneuvers
open water rescues in mild conditions (under 2-foot seas)
Graduates of this course should be capable of paddling up to one mile off shore with some moderate conditions but not white caps or current speeds more than two knots.
Cost: $100 - all materials included. You will need a kayak with front and rear bulkheads, a skirt (preferably neoprene), and other equipment. We have rental equipment available if you need it. Space limited to 12 participants! Contact us for more details and a "bring list."
